Magic Labs is a development program for diverse storytellers to explore new work (Prioritizing Queer/Trans, BIPOC, and Neurodivergent Artists).
SOMETHING MAGIC selected a cohort of storytellers from across artistic disciplines with an interest in exploring XR in their creation work. For six months, these artists were given individualized tools and mentorship to explore their own XR project.
Our creation lab met bi-weekly online as a unit, fostering a space of creative exchange, while working through individualized action plans that offered dramaturgical support and technical resources. All participating storytellers were matched with one-on-one mentorship from XR industry leaders.
Each participating artist built a pitch document of their unique concept and was offered guidance on grants for future funding. Artists received hands-on workshops from our network of industry partners, introducing them to elements of an XR pipeline and giving them tools to further inform their projects.
MAGIC LABS concluded with a virtual showcase, inviting industry professionals and audiences to engage with artists’ pitch documents, digital samples, and a Q&A with that year's cohort.
